WebRTC Phone Privacy Policy
WebRTC Phone Privacy Policy
Effective 13 October 2026
WebRTC Phone is a Chrome extension that lets you make and receive calls and messages through a SIP account you configure yourself. This policy explains what data the extension handles and where that data goes.
Summary
The developer of WebRTC Phone does not collect, receive, store or sell any of your data. The extension has no analytics, advertising, tracking or developer-run server. Everything it stores stays in your browser on your device, and it communicates only with the SIP server you choose.
Data stored on your device
The extension keeps the following in your browser's local extension storage:
DataPurposeSIP account settings, including your username and passwordSigning in to your SIP server, including automatically when the side panel opensContacts (name and number)Your phone book and contact presence statusCall history (party, time, duration, outcome)The History screen and redialingText messages you send and receiveThe Messages screenPreferences (theme, audio devices, volume, noise cancellation, click-to-call on/off)Remembering your settings
This data never leaves your device except as described in the next section. Selecting Log out permanently deletes all of it. Uninstalling the extension also deletes it.
Data sent to third parties
RecipientWhat is sent and whyThe SIP server you configureYour SIP credentials (to authenticate), call and message signaling, the text of messages you send, and presence subscriptions for your contacts. This server is operated by you or your telephony provider, and its handling of data is governed by that provider's privacy policy. The people you call or messageYour call audio and messages, carried through your SIP provider or directly between devices, as with any phone call.A STUN serverWhen a call connects, the extension asks a STUN server for your public network address so audio can reach you. The default is Google's public STUN server (stun.l.google.com), which sees your IP address. No other data is sent to it.
Click-to-call on websites
To let you call phone links with one click, the extension runs a small script on the websites you visit. It only reacts when you click a phone link (a tel: link). It does not read, collect or transmit any other page content or your browsing activity. When you click a phone link, or choose Call with WebRTC Phone from its right-click menu, that one number is passed to the extension's side panel on your device to place the call. You can turn off the click behavior at any time under Settings → Web Pages.
Microphone and notifications
The extension uses your microphone only during calls, after you grant permission. Audio is sent only to the other parties on the call and is never recorded or stored. Notifications for incoming calls and messages are shown locally by Chrome.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly handle their data.
